Custom Code API: schedule native local notifications from the device
Please add a bridge that lets Custom Code sections schedule, update and cancel native local notifications on the device. For example:
gb.localNotifications.schedule({id, title, body, date}), cancel(id), list().
The problem today:
Push notifications work well for news and announcements. They don't work for reminders that are personal to each user, or calculated on the device. Every reminder has to go through a server, needs internet, and arrives at a rough time instead of the exact one.
What this would enable:
Health & wellness: medication reminders, drinking water, stretching breaks, sleep schedules. Each user sets their own times.
Fitness & habits: daily workout reminders, streak keepers, habit trackers.
Location-based times: sunrise and sunset alerts, golden hour for photographers, tide times for surfers and fishermen. These are calculated from where the user is and change every day.
Bookings & events: appointment reminders, class schedules, "your event starts in 30 minutes".
Learning: study sessions, language practice, spaced repetition review.
Why local and not push:
It works offline.
It fires at the exact time for each user.
It keeps personal schedules private on the device.
It adds zero load on GoodBarber's push servers.
Nice to have: a periodic background refresh hook, so the app can schedule the coming days without the user opening it.
