Internal Section notification badge

It would be very useful to be able to have a notification badge within the app, related to new content, from some section of the app. As an example, in the app we have added a "button" with a kind of badge or notification icon (see example image) where that number, a notification symbol, appears every time there is new content in a related section of the app. As you can see in the image, this is an html section where the button with the red badge alerts you to new content and if you touch the button, the badge disappears, as an indication that you have entered that section. But that badge is not "dynamic". It would be great if that notification badge would appear or disappear based on new content posted in the related section. Is it possible to link that notification badge to an event that occurs in a related section?
